First depicted in the children's game show Double Dare, aired by Nickelodeon in the 1990s, moon shoes became quite popular as a household toy. Actually, moon shoes can be compared with small trampolines for the feet. Just like jumping on a trampoline, moon shoes deliver a bouncing effect to the children's feet, thus, one can experience a sort of anti-gravity effect, like, walking on the moon. The base of the moon shoes is made up of quality durable plastic – looks like a hollow box. The upper margins of the box are attached to several adjustable jumping rubber bands, which connects the foot-rest. The feet can be attached to the foot-rest by Velcro straps. When, children walk wearing a moon shoe, the children bounces over the elastic rubber bands.
Moon shoes help develop children balance & co-ordination, while having fun. Various controversies arouse regarding the safety of their uses.
